About Gareth Andrews

Gareth Andrews grew up on woodland farms in northern Minnesota. Inspired first by his father's and grandfather's artistry, he went on to explore the arts at the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He trekked North and South America and toured Europe before exploring Alaska for a decade, sculpting, painting, and doing historical restorations for the University of Alaska Museum, Fairbanks. Minnesota's Iron Range is now home to Gareth and his wife Carol.
Public installations of his art on the Iron Range include: the Iron Range Veteran's Memorial "Shoulder to Shoulder Even the Fallen Stand Tall", Virginia, MN; the bronze sculpture "Legacy of Learners" commissioned for Hibbing Community College, Hibbing, MN, through Minnesota Percent for Art in Public Places and "Passing Torch", a memorial in bronze relief for Virginia Regional Medical Center. He joined forces with friend and fellow sculptor, Byron Kesanen, to create with hammer, torch, and four tons of steel "The Sawyer", for Rotary Park, Virginia, MN.
Gareth likes to tell a story through his sculpture. He, particularly, enjoys historical and wildlife themes. He has often spent more time researching the back story for a sculpture than in actually sculpting the piece. His research has led him to read historic whaling logs, spend time on a university research vessel, interview experts, dig into museum archives, and travel to unusual destinations. Look for the stories.
Gareth has shown his award winning artwork in museums, galleries, and exhibits from coast to coast for more than 30 years. Click on the link below to find more details.
